I'm always looking for a good inexpensive lunch in town. WHile there are plenty of options, finding something fast, cheap and healthy is next to impossible.

But I just made a great find. Tasty, nutritious and very filling. It's Greek to Me has Lunch Specials menu that I picked from today. I chose Greek Salad with Spinach Pie. A good sized salad with real lettuce (not iceberg lettuce) and all kinds of other ingredients including a grape leaf and feta cheese. And a flaky, not greasy, spinach pie. It even came with a large piece of warm bread. The total with tax ran a few pennies over $8.

According to this July 9th article on NorthJersey.com, a Ridgewood resident saw a bear in her backyard last week. The resident lives on Gateway Rd on the eat side of Route 17. An animal control professional says the bear has been seen in Hillsdale, Emerson, Washington Township, Oradell and Paramus and is thought to be raiding backyard bird feeders. Ridgewood Water has imposed Stage IV restrictions effective Tuesday, July 6. Ridgewood Water serves Ridgewood, Glen Rock, Midland Park and Wyckoff.

The Village website states the following, "Due to recent weather conditions and the resulting increase in demand for water, the normal reserve maintained for fighting fires and maintaining pressure in the system has dropped to unacceptably low levels."

Stage IV prohibits any type of irrigation.

The new 2-story science wing in Glen Rock is on schedule, according to this article in the Bergen Record. Students are expected to move in by January. Other components of the school improvement package include a new band room and auditorium upgrades (lighting, audio, seating, air conditioning) in the high school, and window replacements, parking lot re-paving, and heating/cooling replacements in elementary schools.

Village & PSE&G crews will continue to work throughout the day and night to restore services. Based on the extensive dame - especially in Bergen County, PSE&G is estimating that the majority of customers will be restored by late Wednesday with the remainder on Thursday.
Many of the outages are caused by falling trees and limbs, which bring down power lines. Downed wires should always be considered "live". STAY AWAY FROM ALL DOWNED LINES. Just took a drive through Ridgewood and Glen Rock. Dozens of major trees down, all major thoroughfares closed in at least one place including Maple, Ackerman, W Glen. Most traffic lights not working. What a mess!

The new Borough Hall was finished at the end of December, 2009. Located in front of the Borough Hall train station at the intersection of Rock Road and S. Maple Ave, the structure was expanded significantly.

The improvement over last fall in the number of home sales is dramatic. In Bergen County, homes under contract over the last 30 days is up 50% over the same period last year. The median sales price is down 9.2%.
In northwest Bergen County, where foreclosures are much less common, activity is up 54% and prices down only 0.4%.

Donna and Patrick Warren closed on their purchase of 162 Hope St in Ridgewood yesterday. The home is a mail order kit home circa 1917. The previous owner believes it was purchased from Sears. 

The Warrens will be doing major renovations on the home before moving in. The Warrens and I have started a blog to document the renovation and the search for clues as to the manufacturer/retailer. We've been doing research on kit homes and aren't convinced this is indeed a Sears home.
